Overview | Fishing | Hunting | How to Get Here | Rates | Special Offers | Accommodations Enjoy a Perfect Alaska Fishing Vacation! The Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge is a remote sport fishing and fly fishing lodge located in the Bristol Bay area of Western Alaska. This area is the pinnacle of Alaska fishing for five species of salmon (Chinook, Sockeye, Chum, Coho, and Pink) and Alaska’s largest rainbow Trout. This is the designated “Trophy Rainbow Trout” area of Alaska. Fly fishing opportunities are endless. The lodge is located on the Kvichak River four miles downstream from Lake Iliamna and is accessed by air. Only 16 guests per week stay at the lodge. This Alaska lodge has all the comforts of home, yet we still have the great Alaska flavor of being in the wilderness. Anglers will enjoy superb fishing opportunities right on the river that the lodge is located on. The Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge also offers excellent caribou and upland bird hunting trips.
Overview | Fishing | Hunting | How to Get Here | Rates | Special Offers | Accommodations Fishing Program We fish by wading, drifting, casting, or plugging. You can fly fish or use conventional gear. There are streams that are fly fishing only areas and there are rivers that allow either fly fishing or conventional gear. The type of fishing is your choice. Your guide is there to help you and to educate you about the rivers we fish. They will fish you whichever way you enjoy the most. All of the methods are successful. The Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge was built on the Kvichak River for three very important reasons. First, the Kvichak River has the largest salmon run in the world that swims right past the lodge every summer. Secondly, the Kvichak River has Alaska's largest rainbow Trout. Period! The Kvichak will consistently produce rainbow Trout in excess of 28". The population of fish is very healthy and the fish are protected by Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations for catch & release. The third reason the Kvichak River was our desired location to build the lodge was because of the close proximity to other excellent fishing streams that can be quickly accessed by using the lodge floatplanes. We are only short flights from some excellent fly fishing only streams for rainbows and to some fantastic salmon streams.
Overview | Fishing | Hunting | How to Get Here | Rates | Special Offers | Accommodations Caribou Hunting All caribou hunts are unguided. You will be transported throughout the area by boat, 4-wheeler, or airplane. You must pick out the animal you choose to shoot and clean him once downed. Lodge personnel will pack the animal from the kill location to the vehicle that transported you into the field. Your meat will be well taken care of once back at the lodge. It will be cleaned, hung, and then deboned.
Our caribou hunts offer the hunter the mobility. The lodge is located on the 60 mile long Kvichak River. We also have access to Lake Iliamna and the shores around it. This means that you will be able to move from one hunting spot to another. We are able to cover a tremendous amount of hunting area. If there happens to be a lack of animals that are accessible by boat along the Kvichak or Lake Iliamna, we have the ability to fly you out to a different area to hunt. We will provide you with all the necessary camping gear, food, sleeping bags, and kitchen supplies.
Overview | Fishing | Hunting | How to Get Here | Rates | Special Offers | Accommodations Location The Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge is nestled on the bank of the Kvichak (kwee-Jack) River four miles downstream from Lake Iliamna, and 250 miles southwest of Anchorage. The Kvichak is the only connection between Bristol Bay and Lake Iliamna. Thus, each year millions of salmon that are returning to the Illamna drainage to spawn must swim right past the lodge. The largest salmon run in the world is out the front door of your cabin. With all of the salmon in this watershed, the native Rainbow Trout and Arctic Grayling grow to unbelievable size.
Lake Iliamna is Alaska’s largest lake. It is 80 miles long, 30 miles wide, and up to 900 feet deep. The lake has 34 snow fed tributaries that provide for excellent spawning grounds for the salmon. The lake is drained to the Southwest by the Kvichak River, which connects the lake to Bristol Bay,Any Salmon that return to the Lake Iliamna/Lake Clark drainage must use the Kvichak to get there.
