Fly fishing trips available year-round, depending on weather conditions. Fishing trips include fly rod & reel, boots & waders, leaders & flies, and beverages. Full day trips include streamside lunch. Lunch available on ˝ day trips for $10. Trips do not include Colorado fishing license ($5.25/day) or professional guide gratuity.
Piney River - The namesake of the ranch is our most popular destination. Seven miles of private, world-class trout habitat run through the ranch and provide anglers with small deep pools, long riffles, and remote canyon sections. Rainbows, browns, brookies and cutthroats may all be found lurking the secret pools. If you want complete seclusion from other anglers while casting in one of the most beautiful valleys in Eagle County, the Piney River is for you.
Eagle River - The Spruce Flats section of this famous river produces tremendous rainbow and brown trout action. Whether stripping streamers in the early season or throwing a hopper and a dropper in the heat of the summer, long, shaded runs, deep corner pools, and private access make this stretch a favorite among many visitors to the ranch.
Lake Fishing - Several lakes and ponds are located on the ranch. Each will accommodate outings for individuals, couples, families, or large corporate groups. We manage our still water for diversity while incorporating a challenging but rewarding fishing experience. There are only a few places to catch a Trout Grand Slam. Spend a day on one of our ponds to accomplish this fishing feat!
Winter Fishing - Take a break from the bumps and powder to wet your line and enjoy some of the best fishing in the west. Depending on conditions, you may fish the Eagle River, Piney River, or one of our lakes or ponds. Bundle up like you were going skiing and enjoy a day on the Piney Valley Ranch’s private water.

As one of Colorado’s premier Ranching For Wildlife properties, our clients can hunt within the ranch boundaries for an unparalleled experience where bucks grow to over 200 inches B&C and massive bugling bulls haunt your dreams. Outside the ranch, we have access to thousands of acres of public land. With our yurt camp as your base, hunt the surrounding timber and meadows for deer and/or elk with rifle, muzzleloader, or bow. Also, bear and mountain lion hunts are available by reservation only. Trophy and management hunts available. All big game hunts fully guided Sept.- Dec. Please call for dates, pricing, and availability. Ranching For Wildlife: Through the Ranching For Wildlife agreement with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, we are managing our herds for overall health, long-term sustainability, and trophy class animals. Limited licenses, extended seasons, large populations, and trophy class animals make the Piney Valley Ranch the only world-class big game hunting destination in the Vail Valley. Mule Deer: The Piney Valley Ranch is situated in the middle of Eagle County, one of the most well known areas in the country for big mule deer bucks. Only one other county in the United States has produced more Boone & Crockett mule deer than Eagle County. Hunters on the ranch can expect to find 180”+ bucks on our trophy hunts. In 2001, a hunter bagged a buck that gross scored over 230” non-typical. For the ultimate in private land hunting for huge mule deer, come to the Piney Valley Ranch. Elk: The bugle of a bull elk haunts the dreams of even the most experienced hunter. With the ability to hunt during the rut, hunters at the Piney Valley Ranch can experience Colorado’s wild September song. Let our guides bugle the elk into a genuine bull frenzy before carefully selecting your shot. Harvest success on the ranch is 100% for trophy 6x6 bulls.
Bear and Mountain Lion: A limited amount of hunting for predators is allowed on the ranch in accordance with our multiple use management plan. Please call for more details.
Count Statistics: Harvest surveys are conducted twice yearly. This enables us to track our herds within the ranch boundaries.
The first count beginning in early spring assesses post-winter mortality. This provides us with the lowest population of the year because both hunter mortality and winter mortality are accounted for.
The second survey, which is taken in early September, is considered our pre-season count. This provides information on fawn and calf survival for the year. At this time, we can readily sex the animals at a farther distance as to not pressure the animals. We can also assess age structures of the male (antlered) animals.

Hunt sage covered hillsides, cut hay fields, and aspen pockets for wily pheasants and chukar. Use our facility to train your dog for the upcoming season, as an alternative to expensive out-of-state hunts, or as a way to entertain friends, family, or clients. Teams of trained dogs and handlers are available to help you “hunt ‘em up.”
Guided & Unguided Hunts: Professional dog handlers and their trained dogs are available to provide you with an unrivaled recreation opportunity in the Vail Valley. Follow the dogs as they sniff out the hiding places of crafty pheasant and chukar, then watch them retrieve the downed birds after the shot.
If you have your own dog, the ranch is a perfect location for training new pups or for fine-tuning a hard working older dog. Affordable packages are available for individuals and groups.

Overnight accommodations, photography excursions, horseback riding, and small and big game hunting are all available by reservation only. Also, combination packages are available for individuals, couples, families, and groups.
Cast and Blast: For those of you who can’t decide between fishing and shooting, try both! Our Cast and Blast features a half day wade fishing trip on our private water followed by an Instructional Shooting Clinic at our famous Shooting Sports Complex.
Photography Trips: The Piney Valley Ranch is home to an abundant variety of wildlife species. Let our experienced guides put you in the right place for the chance to see and photograph some of the most spectacular wildlife and scenery in Colorado.
Horseback Riding: Let our experienced guides take you on a wilderness horseback ride. This is not your classic nose-to-tail trail ride. Our surefooted mountain horses will carry you through lush pastures, deep forests, and return you safely back again.
Snowshoeing: Our guides will take you on a round trip hike with a chance to see wildlife and learn about winter in Colorado. Enjoy the crisp, clean air and a blanket of fresh mountain snow as you explore the backcountry.
Grouse Hunting: Blue Grouse are considered by many to be “mountain chickens” because of their tendency to sit still and let danger pass. However, blue grouse hunting can be one of the most challenging and rewarding wing shooting adventures.
Coyote Hunting: The thrill of a coyote responding to your calls and the satisfaction that you have helped our deer and elk herds makes coyote hunting a very popular trip on the ranch.
